Ordo theologiae

Just because metaphysics/natural theology/the preambles of faith are written down first in a theological exposition does not mean that one is proceeding merely by natural reason. After all, it may be the case that the light of faith is illuminating such knowledge so that it can be incorporated within theology. Let us recall that theology, according to Aquinas, is both science and a form of wisdom, and its first principles are revealed, proper to the supernatural virtue of faith. What is written may not give an accurate picture of what has gone on in the soul or in the intellect; objections to Aquinas' ordo or method seem to ignore what he himself said about the matter.
