This "...main thesis in Christianity and Democracy is, as I stated above, that the ideals of modern democracy are Christian in origin and that the values of Christianity energize its institutions." is absolute balderdash!

What was Christendom?

Throne and Altar! It was "democracy" that destroyed Throne and Altar and now democracy is "Christian"? What a joke!

Furthermore, democracy has nothing to do with the Natural Law. In the Republic, Socrates states that the state is "according to nature". The State that Socrates is referring to and to which Plato's title and book is in reference to, is the Spartan Republic that has nothing to do with democracy!

Maritain has it all wrong. Socrates says, "philosophy ALWAYS holds on to the same". It was philosophy that built the Spartan Republic. Philosophy in NO way upholds, defends, creates democracy!

What idiocy!
