God-Breathed Psalms?

One intervention at Vatican II argued that the psalms *Iudica me* at the foot and *Lavabo* during the offertory had “lost their meaning” and so should be suppressed. Might I suggest that, if the God-breathed psalms have “lost their meaning,” we might want to try to find it?

A Suitable Lesson about the Holy Spirit?

Whose Tradition?

And where? What are the sources? Is this celebrated liturgically or only only a theological opinion?

The Rorate Mass inserts us ever more deeply into the Advent season, all the while uniting us to the pre-eminent Woman of Advent, the Mother of the Messiah.

John 20:21-22

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” \And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

If we assume that this correlates to Genesis and other passages in the Old Testament pertaining to the creation of man, and is therefore an act of the new creation, to what does this act of breathing on the apostles correspond? Baptism? (There is an unsettled question as to if and when the apostles were baptized in water.) Or, if they had been baptized in water before the death and resurrection of Christ, a completion of that baptism as Christ had not died and been resurrected yet?

Come Holy Spirit

or the prayer to the Holy Spirit:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

If the first part of the petition is addressed to the Holy Spirit, does it make sense to ask the Holy Spirit to send forth His Spirit? The second part is addressed to God the Father, so wouldn't it make more sense to include this part:

"Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth."

after that?

As that is taken from Psalm 104, verse 30, can it be argued that it is actually addressing Christ (and the Father)?

Given that it was supposedly written by Rabanus Maurus (c. 8th ce), one shouldn't be surprised that the hymn reflects a Latin Pneumatology (with one of its sourcesbeing St. Augustine?).
