There Is a Place for Hope in the Christian Life
And considering the Last Things frequently. But is the eschaton our primary motivation or God in the present? Focusing too much on our subjective beatitude instead of objective beatitude (God) can lead to that sort of piety which focuses on the accumulation of good works and merit, rather than God. Purification of one's self so that one can focus on God is what is important; everything else will be taken care of accordingly.
I think we need more homilies on heaven. Fixing the mind and heart on the good things to come helps to bear well and patiently the sufferings and sorrows of the present. To live for heaven is neither escapist nor cowardly: it's Christian. https://t.co/isHX4A26QQ

St. Alphonsus Liguori on Hope
“The more a person loves God, the more reason he has to hope in Him. This hope produces in the Saints an unutterable peace, because as they love God and know how beautiful He is . . . they find all their repose in Him alone.” - Saint Alphonsus Liguori#AllHallowsEve pic.twitter.com/9U6YhxU3of

Is von Balthasar an Universalist?
Latin traditionalists hold his universalism against von Balthasar and Ressourcement in general. Have Thomists moved beyond that?

Whatever Balthasar’s position is, and whether or not it is correct, it isn’t universalism.

The Hope of Universal Salvation
At least Aquinas and the scholastics gave a definition of hope and distinguished it from charity. In order to answer the question whether we can have the theological virtue of hope for the salvation of all, we must first define hope and determine whether it is the same as desire or wishing or is a kind of desire or wishing. Do we love all men (with charity) and thus desire their salvation? If yes, then can we not hope for their salvation as well?
"Universalist" hope is not the same as the belief that all will be saved.
