Pope Francis: A Man of His Word

Apparently this movie is not a documentary about the man or the person of the pope but about Christianity or Christian teachings, as transmitted by the writings and speeches of Pope Francis. So why the misleading title? Can the message be separated from the messenger? Of course it can. Imagine if a documentary had been made about the teachings of Jesus Christ instead.

Does the movie do anything to lessen the personality cult built around Francis by Catholics and liberals? It would seem not. Or to diminish Roman claims about the papacy? No.

Exactly

Ed Peters on what seems to be the latest publicity stunt for the "populist, pastoral" pope: Thoughts on a Mid-Air Marriage (original)

In his update, Peters reports that this may have been a planned event. If that is the case, did the same person who got this to happen also have the conscience necessary to make sure the necessary vetting of the couple was done? Even if that were the case, the fact that this was publicized as a spontaneous event and to maintain a certain image of the pope speaks volumes about the papacy.

A Sad Marketing Gimmick

One would have wished that sort of thing was limited to Jesuits and Franciscans...

Looks like it is getting much support from the Dominicans in the Philippines and their lay associates.

Hymn of the Jubilee of Mercy

Has anyone written a critique of the music? Too modern/Romantic?

more info

"The Authors of the original music (Paul Inwood) and text (Eugenio Costa, S.J.) have donated the copyright of this work to the PCPNE in order to facilitate the distribution of the Hymn of the Jubilee of Mercy throughout the Catholic Church."

Because the Church needs a mission statement and a theme song! (It's a good thing they didn't make some version of the Lord's prayer the theme song. )
