Still Primarily a Western Phenomenon?

Unfortunately, the charismatic movement has spread among Indian Catholics as well, probably more among those who were Latin-rite but who knows, there may be some Indian Syriac Catholics who have become "Charismatic." Has a renewed emphasis on Confirmation sufficiently addressed their claims about being baptized in the Holy Spirit?

Cardinal Koch on the Protestant Reformation

CWR: Cardinal Koch: “The commemoration of the Reformation reminded us of what unites us”

“In the commemoration of the Reformation,” says the President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, “the emphasis was above all on what we have in common; but open questions still remain, as before.”

Catholic? Since When?

CWR Blog: Chemin Neuf and Taize among new Catholic movements present at WYD by Filip Mazurczak
New Catholic movements that flourished after Vatican II, especially in Europe, are helping to rejuvenate the Church, and many of them are present in Krakow.

Chemin Neuf may be Catholic but Taizé, though it may have Catholic members. What is their appeal? A pseudo-traditional feel? Emotional worship music? The sense of community and belonging?

A Worship that Appeals to Both Men and Women

Rorate Caeli: FIUV Position Paper: The Traditional Mass and Men

The claim that prayers and lyrics that are overly sentimental and do not strongly assert the truths of the Faith are repugnant to men is probably right. But one could probably find a trend of declining Mass attendance by men in the Roman rite churches after World War II; this is parallel to other churches (i.e. Byzantine) suffering from low attendance, both here in the US and in Europe, despite their maintaining traditional forms of worship. Why has there been a difficulty in retaining males? This is something those in authority need to address. Male converts are more likely to seek out traditional, more reverent forms, with the exception of charismatics and those who participate in some of the new ecclesial movements? But even those can be said to share with traditional forms a more demanding, robust Christianity, even if the theology of the latter groups may be suspect.

Would There Be

5th Lenten Sermon of Fr. Cantalamessa

Fr. Cantalamessa's 5th Lenten Homily 2015East and West Before the Mystery of Salvation

Of course, he has some positive words about the Catholic Charismatic movement.

"The Catholic charismatic movement is one of the many fruits of the Second Vatican Council, which, like a new Pentecost, led to an extraordinary flourishing in the Church's life of groups and movements particularly sensitive to the action of the Spirit. . . . How many lay faithful—men, women, young people, adults and the elderly—have been able to experience in their own lives the amazing power of the Spirit and his gifts! How many people have rediscovered the faith, the joy of prayer, the power and beauty of the Word of God, translating all this into generous service in the Church’s mission! How many lives have been profoundly changed!"

His second and third sermons of Lent this year.
