A Step in the Right Direction?

Or getting away from the tradition of a particular Church without sufficient expalanation? Regardless of whether Sandro Magister likes the changes in emphasis or not, is his reporting accurate? If the Latins do move away from indulgences what change in teaching accompanies it? If none, then will the faithful be confused? A Latin traditionalist could argue that indulgences are the effect of God's mercy, in so far as He desires that we have a role in the economy of salvation.

Indulgences and Purgatory? Francis Has Mothballed Them

They were constituent elements of all the jubilees. But not of this one. The pope isn’t talking about them anymore, as if they would overshadow the absolute primacy of mercy

Is the use of poetry and figurative language in Syriac theology culturally linked to the use of the same in the Old Testament? A Semitic preference for that approach? Or the absence of a developed philosophical tradition?

The Question of Married Priests in the Roman Rite

Chiesa: The Next Synod Is Already in the Works. On Married Priests

In mid-February Pope Francis will go to Chiapas, where hundreds of deacons with their wives are pushing to be ordained as priests. And in the Amazon as well the turning point seems to be near. It was all written down in the agenda of Cardinal Martini

What is the relationship of the bishops to canon law? Is there just one theory of ecclesiastical law? Would it be possible for a bishop to overwrite the canon law of the patriarchate of Rome with a law applicable only in his diocese? (e.g. could a bishop permit the ordination of married men for his diocese only and thus abrogate canon law within his own diocese? What is the (theory of the) relationship between the patriarch and the other bishops? And is that of Sacred Tradition?

From myth to facts. In the Mexican diocese that Francis will visit in February ordinations to the priesthood are blossoming again, while the campaign for married priests is wilting. A letter from the bishop

Definitely Too Early for This

Worse than Paul VI?

Zenit: "God is Father and Mother": as Jubilee of Mercy nears, Francis calls for "revolution of tenderness" and criticizes his own Church.

Chiesa: A Jubilee By Popular Acclaim
Mercy for all except the hierarchical Church, too closed-off and backward to deserve the pope’s forgiveness. But in the meantime two cases with uncertain outcomes have exploded: the trial of Balda and Chaouqui and the clash with the supreme court of Chile

Maybe this is premature...

55 Years Later, What Progress?

At least we have the Anglican Ordinariates.

Is the Jubilee Year a Roman Thing or a Universal Thing?

Regardless of what the wording may say... what possible relevance does the Jubilee Year (and its associated talk of indulgences) have on the life of the non-Latin churches?

The Major Archbishop isn't going to buck the "leadership" of Rome.
